Pembroke First United Methodist Church was organized in 1915. At the time, Rev. S.R. Snead was Pastor of the Newport Methodist Charge which included Mt. Lebanon Church at Hoge's Store. First church was a building erected at a cost of $3,000, and was dedicated on October 17, 2015 by Rev. W.S. Neighbors, D.D. of Bristol, Tennessee. Rev. S.R. Snead was Pastor. This is a picture of the original church when it stood on Snidow Street in Pembroke around 1915.
According to information available, there were about thirty charter members. Pembroke Methodist Church became the new church on the Newport Charge. The Newport and Pembroke Charges were combined and served by one Pastor at the time. The Charge was divided in 1947 to make the current Pembroke Charge which consists of Pembroke First and Mt. Lebanon Churches. At the time, Rev. B.T. Leonard was Pastor.
In 1942, there was a need for additional room and new Sunday School rooms were added to the building at an additional cost of $3,000. The new construction was dedicated on September 13, 1942 while the Rev. B.T. Price was Pastor.
The congregation soon outgrew the new addition and under the direction of Rev. Robert A. Rose in 1953, a building committee was elected and plans were made for additional Sunday School rooms. After careful study and planning, it was decided to build the present Sanctuary, Sunday School rooms and Basement Fellowship Hall. This Building was completed in 1961 and was consecrated on April 9, 1961. The Building was completely paid for by 1970 and was dedicated on October 25, 1970. In 2004, the church expanded again adding a new multi-purpose room (gym, fellowship hall and auditorium), additional Sunday school rooms and a new expanded kitchen.
In 2012, under the leadership of Pastor Rob Lough, the church paid off the fellowship hall building through the "Window of Opportunity" fund raising event. Additional funds were used to purchase the rental house and land beside the church to expand the parking space. In 2013, the new parking lot was added. 2014 saw additional upgrades with a concrete parking pad and sidewalk added to provide improved handicap accessibility to the fellowship hall from both parking areas.
